Crab Apples

There is nothing to this photo beyond pointing a pocket camera. The crab apple tree is in our front yard, and I had five minutes to kill one day in mid-September. The image fits our definition of a texture pattern, which is to say that it lacks an obvious subject and has repetitive elements. The pattern usually fills the frame as this one does.

The pattern is varied by the deeper space right of center in the image. It is often good to have some variation in the pattern. The variation give the viewer more to ponder.

If you have a crab apple tree, keep an eye on the changing color of the fruit. Depending upon the type and time of year, the fruit can take on shades of red, yellow, and purple that sometimes appear almost iridescent.

The image is shown full frame. The main Photoshop adjustment was autolevels, to increase the contrast. It was sharpened and reduced to fit the web page.

There is a tutorial on texture patterns on the QSA site.
